Nvidia puts $3 billion into Meta as chipmakers race to back AI companies

AMD added a further $1 billion, taking the two chipmakers' combined commitment to $4 billion. Meta is aiming to raise $95 billion for AI infrastructure in total.

“We're excited to keep working with Nvidia to deliver the best personal agents and frontier models for billions of people,” Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief executive, said as Nvidia committed $3 billion to the company on Tuesday.

The investment is part of an expanded partnership between Nvidia and Meta, centred on Muse, Meta’s AI agent, which launched last month. AMD separately announced a $1 billion investment on Tuesday, bringing the two chipmakers’ commitments to $4 billion.

Meta had already set out plans to raise $95 billion for AI infrastructure. It said it would begin with $35 billion in underwritten public equity offerings, followed by an additional $60 billion through an at-the-market programme.

On Monday, Meta said Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom had expressed interest in buying up to $5 billion in shares. Nvidia and AMD then announced their respective investments on Tuesday.

Nvidia’s partnership with Meta is centred on Muse. The company said it would “partner to expand their work on Muse and the Muse family of models to improve inference and training performance”.

Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s chief executive, said: “AI agents represent a new computing paradigm — software that understands our goals, reasons, uses tools and gets work done on our behalf”. He added: “This changes how we use computers, from operating applications to working with intelligent agents.”

AMD already has hardware inside Meta’s Muse operation: its EPYC processors were powering Muse, while its Helios racks were running at Meta. Nvidia said Meta would expand deployment of Vera Rubin and Vera CPU. Lisa Su, AMD’s chief executive, said: “Together, we are building and deploying infrastructure at gigawatt scale and shaping future generations of silicon, software and systems to enable Meta's most ambitious superintelligence models and services.”

The investments show how closely the chip business is becoming entwined with the companies buying its hardware. Nvidia has invested in OpenAI, Anthropic, Intel and XAI, and has taken part in 121 investment rounds so far this year, according to Dealroom, compared with just 13 in 2022. AMD said in July it would make an equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic. It has been involved in 25 funding rounds in 2026, up from just two in 2022.

There was a little theatre alongside the balance-sheet news. The companies released an image of Jolly, Muse’s viral mascot, dressed as Huang, complete with the signature leather jacket.
