Corrections

Our policy

When The Modern gets a fact wrong, we correct it quickly, visibly and on the record. This policy applies to every article we publish, whether it was drafted by a person, by our AI pipeline, or both.

  • Corrections fix errors of fact. The article is amended, and a note at the bottom of the article states what was wrong and what is right, with the date of the correction.
  • Clarifications address wording that was accurate but could reasonably have been misunderstood. They are noted in the same way.
  • Updates to developing stories add new information and are not corrections. They are marked with an updated timestamp rather than a correction note.
  • Removals. We do not unpublish articles to hide errors. In rare cases, for legal reasons or to prevent serious harm, we may remove or substantially rewrite an article; where we do, we leave a note explaining that it was changed and why.

Corrections are made as soon as an error is confirmed, normally within 24 hours of a report being verified. Significant corrections to widely read articles are also flagged on our social channels where the original was shared.

Because we are an AI-assisted newsroom, every logged correction is fed back into our verification checks so that the same class of error is less likely to recur. Our How We Use AI page explains this process.

Report an error

If you believe something we published is wrong, email corrections@[yourdomain] or use our contact form. Please include:

  • a link to the article;
  • the specific statement you believe is incorrect;
  • where possible, a source that supports the correction.

We review every report. If we make a correction, we will reply to let you know. If we decide a correction is not warranted, we will explain why on request.
