UN staff member dies in Houthi custody in Yemen
Mohammad el-Shami, detained since June 2024, is the second UN staffer to die in Houthi detention. His family was told of his death more than a month after it happened, with no explanation of the cause. Seven of his OHCHR colleagues remain held, part of a total of 71 UN and NGO workers in Houthi custody.
