Gen Z protests sweep 34 German cities, with water cannons used in Cologne
Nearly 180,000 people signed up for the demonstrations, organised by a loose student alliance demanding affordable living, education funding and an end to military conscription. Police said the protests were largely peaceful overall, despite fireworks thrown at officers in Cologne and Hamburg and eggs and bottles thrown in Berlin.
