Wrongful conviction survivor Gary Tyler gets his first solo museum show
Tyler was 16 when he was convicted of murder by an all-white jury in Louisiana in 1975, in a trial a federal court later called fundamentally unfair. He spent 41 years in Angola prison, where he began quilting while helping run a hospice for dying prisoners. His work is now on show at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.
