The European Commission confirmed Cyprus is ready to join Europe's border-free zone after the island implemented 120 recommendations on borders, visas and security. Austria and the Netherlands have reservations over the Green Line and the British base areas, and unanimous EU Council approval is needed — making late 2027 or 2028 the earliest realistic entry.
Ukraine's parliament passed the law with 266 votes on 12 October, and EU member states agreed within hours to open two new accession clusters for Ukraine and Moldova. Every remaining step still requires unanimous agreement from all 27 members.
