On has signed Kylian Mbappé as a global ambassador, ending the 27-year-old’s roughly 20-year relationship with Nike and giving the Swiss-based sportswear company one of football’s most prominent athletes.
On announced the agreement on Friday. Mbappé, the World Cup’s all-time goal scorer, will also work directly with the company’s product teams on footwear and apparel.
The financial package includes cash and equity components. On and Mbappé did not disclose the length of the agreement, its specific financial terms or whether it includes revenue sharing beyond the equity component.
The signing puts Mbappé at the centre of On’s push into football. It also increases pressure on Nike’s historically dominant position in elite football athlete endorsements, where leading players can command substantial sponsorship agreements.
For On, the deal combines a high-profile ambassador role with direct product development work. The company has said its product development includes Lightspray technology, which uses robots to help make shoes.
No timetable has been announced for footwear or apparel resulting from Mbappé’s work with On’s teams. The company has also not set out wider plans for expanding its football division beyond the agreement with Mbappé.
The move shifts a major athlete away from Nike after a long association and gives On a marquee name as competition intensifies across the global premium sportswear market. The value of the deal and the size of Mbappé’s equity stake remain unknown.
