Stan Kroenke has agreed to acquire a controlling interest in the Los Angeles Angels through Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, in a transaction valuing the Major League Baseball club at $4 billion. The agreement, announced on 1 September 2026, requires approval from MLB owners and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
Arte Moreno, who bought the Angels in 2003 and has owned the club for 23 years, consented to the sale. He will remain a minority owner after the transaction closes, although the size of his stake has not been disclosed.
The proposed acquisition would extend Kroenke's ownership across major US professional leagues and the Premier League. He owns the Los Angeles Rams, the Denver Nuggets of the National Basketball Association, the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League, the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer, and Arsenal.
The Angels deal would bring an MLB team into that group. Kroenke Sports and Entertainment has said it aims to finalise the acquisition in the first quarter of 2027, subject to the owners' approval process.
The agreement ends Moreno's period as the Angels' controlling owner. The parties have not disclosed the terms of the definitive agreement beyond the $4 billion valuation, and Kroenke Sports and Entertainment has not set out how it plans to operate the club after the acquisition.
