A cyclosporiasis outbreak linked to contaminated shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms has spread across nine US states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported. The CDC has described the outbreak as massive.

Cyclosporiasis is an illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, which is typically contracted through contaminated food or water. The CDC identified shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms as the source of contamination in this outbreak.

The tainted lettuce was served at Taco Bell restaurants, making the fast-food chain one of the establishments linked to customer exposure. The outbreak has since expanded across additional states, bringing the total number of affected jurisdictions to nine. The CDC has said it planned to release an updated assessment of the situation, with further details on the scope of illnesses and the status of the supply chain expected in that update.

Taylor Farms has not been quoted directly in available reports. The CDC has not named all nine affected states in reports issued to date.
