Thomas Davis saw flames near his home and called 911. He kept a garden hose trained on the property until firefighters arrived. The Bouquet Fire was burning northeast of Santa Clarita.
“I kind of thought we were done because the fire got right there. That is about as close as it's ever gotten,” Davis said.
The fire was initially reported at about 2:30pm on Saturday, 3 October 2026, in the 34800 block of Bouquet Canyon Road. It broke out around 3:15pm near Bouquet Canyon and Quarry roads in the Angeles National Forest.
It moved north through an area of light to medium brush, reaching 1,000 acres. The blaze was threatening structures in the national forest.
Conditions near the fire around 3:30pm included a temperature of 93 degrees, 21% relative humidity, 7 mile-per-hour winds and gusts of 18 mph from the northeast. Cal Fire said crews were also fighting two spot fires near the main blaze.
Authorities issued mandatory evacuation orders for zones LAC-E018, LAC-E031 and LAC-E030. Bouquet Canyon Road at Vasquez Canyon Road was closed because of the fire.
By 5:30pm, authorities said some evacuation orders had been reduced to warnings. The National Weather Service said a south-west onshore wind shift of 6 to 8 mph, with gusts to 13 mph, was likely at the Bouquet Fire between 5 and 6pm.
Firefighters used ground engines, hand crews and aircraft against the blaze. Cal Fire said aircraft would be released because of low visibility and would return in the morning.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
