Three people were killed when NBCLA’s NewsChopper4 crashed in Chatsworth on Tuesday night, in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles.

NBC journalists Eliana Moreno and George Marciniw were among those who died, NBC said. The identity of the third person killed has not been made public.

During live coverage, NBC4 Los Angeles news anchor Colleen Williams said: 'We know that it is a news helicopter, and we know that we have lost contact' with the station's helicopter.

The cause of the crash has not been established. There is no information in the available account on the exact time of the crash, the weather conditions, whether the helicopter was on an active news assignment, or whether mechanical or pilot-related factors played a part.

The helicopter came down near the site of an earlier L.A. Metro bus crash in Chatsworth. That collision killed two people and sent six others to the hospital.

The two incidents occurred in the same area on Tuesday night. The available information does not specify the precise crash site of the helicopter in relation to the earlier bus collision.

The loss of three people aboard NewsChopper4 is a serious blow to NBC Los Angeles’s news operation. The circumstances of the crash, including what occurred before contact with the aircraft was lost, remain unknown.
