Olivia Miles breaks WNBA rookie scoring record, passing Caitlin Clark in 40 games

The Minnesota Lynx guard needed just her first basket against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday to move past Clark's mark of 769 points. Miles reached 771 in the same number of games Clark played in 2024 — despite missing several games earlier this season.

Olivia Miles has become the WNBA’s leading rookie scorer for a single season, passing Caitlin Clark’s record with her first basket against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.

The Minnesota Lynx rookie began the game with 769 points, level with the mark Clark set for the Indiana Fever in 2024. Her opening basket took her to 771 points and put her alone at the top of the league’s rookie scoring list.

Miles reached the record in her 40th game of the 2026 season. That is the same number of contests Clark needed to score 769 points in 2024, giving the comparison a direct measure beyond the final totals.

The milestone carries added weight because Miles missed several Lynx games earlier in the year. She still arrived at the record in 40 games, despite those absences.

Clark’s 2024 season had set the previous standard for a WNBA rookie’s scoring output. Miles has now moved beyond it by two points, with 771 points in 40 games.

The league’s regular season is also four games longer than it was during Clark’s rookie year. Miles’s achievement in the same number of games as Clark means the expanded schedule did not determine when she broke the record.

The record changed hands in Minnesota’s game against Connecticut, with Miles needing only her first score to move past Clark. The brief does not specify her final total from the game or whether she added further to her season tally after reaching 771 points.
