For buyers accustomed to Amazon’s low-cost Fire tablets, the company’s next option begins at $229.99. Amazon announced on Thursday, 8 October 2026, that it was ending the Fire range after more than a decade and replacing it with Alexa-branded Android tablets.
Production of new Fire tablets has ended, though Amazon will continue supporting existing devices, the company told CNBC. The change also ends Amazon’s use of its proprietary Fire OS for new tablets. All three Alexa models run standard Android with full Google Play Store support.
The new range consists of the Alexa Tablet 8, Alexa Tablet 11 and Alexa Tablet 12 Pro. The Alexa Tablet 8 starts at $229.99, while the Alexa Tablet 11 starts at $329.99. Amazon’s previous Fire HD 10 base model carried a $155 price tag.
The Alexa Tablet 8 has an 8.7-inch display, 4GB of RAM and a weight of 329 grams. The Alexa Tablet 11 has an 11-inch 2.5K display, an 8-core processor and 8GB of RAM.
The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro has a 12-inch, 280 PPI display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It uses a 4nm 8-core chip and has up to 16GB of RAM. An optional ‘Nanomatte’ anti-glare display version of the 12 Pro starts at $549.99.
The 12 Pro also works with an optional Pro Pen priced at $89.99 and a Pro Keyboard priced at $149.99. Both are sold separately. Each of the new tablets has an aluminum unibody design and personalised intelligence from the Alexa+ AI assistant.
Panos Panay, Amazon’s devices chief, told CNBC that the component shortage had made it ‘quite tricky’ to deliver a premium product without compromising on specs. Amazon has also introduced Amazon Kids Tablets in 8.7-inch and 11-inch sizes. The Kids Tablet 8 starts at $229.99 and the Kids Tablet 11 starts at $329.99.
The tablets are available to buy now. They will ship from 14 October in the United States, Mexico and Canada, followed by availability in the U.K., Germany, France, Italy and Spain from 19 October.
