US-backed Kazakhstan tungsten mine breaks ground with $1.1bn investment
The North Caterpillar mine in Karaganda Oblast is due to begin production in 2030. It is part of a push to build a tungsten supply chain outside China after Beijing's export controls sent global prices up more than 200% since May 2025.
