‘Widow’s Bay’, the Apple TV horror-comedy created by Katie Dippold, has won 14 Emmy Awards, the highest single-year total for a comedy series in the awards’ history.
The programme collected 8 awards at the Creative Arts ceremonies and a further 6 at Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards telecast. It had received 19 nominations.
The total overtook the previous record set a year ago by ‘The Studio’, which won 13 Emmys. ‘Widow’s Bay’ led its haul with the outstanding comedy series award.
It won that prize ahead of ‘Abbott Elementary’, ‘The Bear’, ‘Hacks’, ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’, ‘Nobody Wants This’, ‘Only Murders in the Building’ and ‘Shrinking’.
Matthew Rhys won the lead comedy actor Emmy for ‘Widow’s Bay’. Stephen Root took the supporting comedy actor award, while Kate O’Flynn won the supporting comedy actress Emmy. Betty Gilpin received the guest comedy actress prize for the series.
The show’s recognition extended beyond its performers. ‘Widow’s Bay’ also won Emmys for comedy writing, comedy directing, comedy casting and music supervision, reflecting the range of its awards across creative and technical categories.
Dippold described the programme as “such a great collaboration of the best, wonderful weirdos and artists”, involving its writers, producers, actors and directors.
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards were held on September 14, 2026 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Apple TV won 28 Emmys in total, with ‘Widow’s Bay’ accounting for 14 of those awards.
