At Stade Bollaert-Delelis, Luis Suárez gave Sporting CP the lead in the 22nd minute against Lens, taking a pass from Nestory Irankunda and finishing a night that would put him alone at the top of the club’s Champions League scoring list. The UEFA Champions League League Stage match, played on 13 October 2026, drew 37,548 spectators.

Suárez, the Colombian striker who joined Sporting de Lisboa to replace Viktor Gyökeres, arrived in France in prolific form. He had scored nine goals in 10 games in all competitions this season and had found the net in eight consecutive matches.

Lens and Sporting had each won their opening league-phase match, giving this second matchday meeting an early place in the contest for momentum.

About 10 minutes after the opening goal, Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser pushed a fierce Suárez strike wide.

Sporting sealed the result in the 74th minute. Issa Doumbia scored the second goal, with Silas Andersen providing the assist, as the visitors completed a 2-0 victory.

Suárez’s opener gave him seven Champions League goals for Sporting, making him the club’s all-time leading scorer in the competition.

The result left Sporting with a 2-0-0 record and 6 PTS in the league phase. Lens stood at 1-0-1 with 3 PTS.

For Sporting, the win made it two victories from two at the start of the league phase.
