Strait of Hormuz disruption adds $39 billion to the global LNG bill
Rystad Energy's 2026 conflict scenario assumes Qatar and UAE exports are blocked from March onwards, pushing total import costs to $256 billion. Europe is hardest hit, paying at least $12 billion more even as it buys 24 million tonnes less — partly because 65% of its gas is bought on the spot market, where prices are up 47%.
