Cooper Pratt, the 22-year-old rookie shortstop who made his major league debut in June, opened the scoring with a second-inning RBI single that brought home Brice Turang at Tropicana Field. A sold-out crowd of 40,489 watched in St. Petersburg, Florida, on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.
In the sixth, William Contreras hit an RBI double. Pratt then sent Contreras home with a sacrifice fly, taking Milwaukee's lead to 4-0.
Jacob Misiorowski held Tampa Bay scoreless for 5 2/3 innings, completing a Series in which he went 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA.
Liam Hicks and Chandler Simpson each doubled for the Rays in the ninth, but Trevor Megill took the final six outs. His teammates mobbed him on the mound after the final out as the Brewers completed a 4-1 Game 5 win and claimed the World Series four games to one.
Christian Yelich, the Brewers captain and their longest-tenured position player, thought of Bob Uecker, the team's voice for 54 seasons, who died in January 2025. “He's smiling, man. He's smiling. I really wish he could have been here to see this,” Yelich said.
The championship is the first in Brewers franchise history. Milwaukee's previous World Series appearance came in 1982, when the club lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. The city's last World Series championship came in 1957, when the Braves won before relocating to Atlanta.
Milwaukee arrived in the postseason after leading the majors with 103 regular-season wins, then went 11-2 on the way to the title. The Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
They won Game 1, played on Friday, 23 October, by 3-2. Misiorowski set the World Series velocity record when his first pitch that night registered 103.5 mph. Tampa Bay kept the series alive by taking Game 4, 4-3 in 12 innings, on Tuesday, 27 October.
Contreras was named World Series Most Valuable Player after batting.381 with four RBIs and throwing out four would-be base stealers.
Pratt finished the Series with seven RBIs, matching the rookie record set by Gil McDougald in 1951. Before his sacrifice fly in Game 5, he had set a Series rookie record with six consecutive hits.
Jackson Chourio set a five-game World Series record with 11 hits.
Pat Murphy, 67, won the title in his third season as Brewers manager. He had won consecutive National League Manager of the Year awards in 2024 and 2025.
The Series was the first since 1991 to feature two teams in the bottom half of payrolls. The Brewers ranked 19th and the Rays 25th as of 31 August.
Tampa Bay, an expansion team that debuted in 1998, remains 0-3 in World Series appearances.
