Germany's far-right AfD wins 43.8% in Saxony-Anhalt and leads national polling
The party took 39 of 83 seats in the state legislature, its latest in a string of eastern German election wins. Nationally it polls at 27 per cent, ahead of Chancellor Merz's CDU/CSU.
