EU delays toughest methane import rules by a year as energy costs surge
European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen announced the rules due from 1 January 2027 would now apply from 2028. The move follows pressure from 20 member states, including Germany, who warned the requirements could make gas and oil imports harder to secure.
